One of Haslemere’s most worrying topics in recent years has been the possibility that Surrey Care Commissioning Group would close Haslemere’s Minor Injuries Unit (MIU).
The matter was resolved on Tuesday after the intervention by local MP Jeremy Hunt.
In a direct question, Secretary of State for Health Matt Hancock confirmed that, after lobbying by Mr Hunt, the MIU, threatened with closure earlier this year, will be saved.
Mr Hunt was backed up by the results of a local survey. Thousands responded.
“I’d like to thank all those in Haslemere who completed the MIU survey. It made a real difference to the strength of opinion I was able to demonstrate to Matt Hancock. Working together like this is what local politics is all about.”
Brilliant news for the 8,000 annual users and a victory for common sense, given how much pressure the MIU takes off Guildford A&E every year.
Well done us. Well done Jeremy Hunt.
