Jamia Ahmadiyya Open Day

You may have seen signs to the Jamia Ahmadiyya on Hindhead Road, Haslemere and wondered what it is.

Well, Councillors David Round (Mayor), Melanie Odell and Simon Dear joined others today, 26th January, at their Open Day.

The Jamia (college) is dedicated to the teaching of Islam to young men on seven-year courses from about 16 to 23 years of age. (Ahmadiyya = of Amadhi-ness)

At a time when Islam gets mixed coverage in the media, is was delightful to be shown around the buildings and learning more of the Ahmadi philosophy of ‘Love for All, Hatred for None.’

The students, most British-born, were all friendly, courteous, knowledgeable and clearly highly dedicated to their studies which include learning several languages, studying the Qu’ran, as well as The Bible and Holy Texts of the other main religions of the world.

The next Open Day will be about the same date – a Saturday in late January 2020, and the whole experience is highly recommended to anyone wishing to find out more about the Islamic faith or these welcome guests who contribute so much to the community.
