The Great War Memorial Recreation Ground
Commemorating The First World War (1914-18)
Just off the Old Haslemere Road and Scotland Lane, at the top of Museum Hill, is the location of Haslemere’s ‘First World War Memorial Recreation Ground’ – although it is more commonly known as “The Rec”.
The land was bought by the Haslemere War Memorial Committee, for the benefit of the Town, two years after the end of the First World War in September 1920.
The Ground opened a year later in 1921.
Here you will find a bowling green, a cricket pitch & pavilion, football & rugby pitches, tennis courts, an enclosed children’s playground, and peaceful views towards the North Downs.
