Councillors were made aware on Monday 2nd October that the car park at the rear of Collingwood & Batchelor is to close in the short term. The store was a Co-Op many years ago and they still own the long lease of the site.
On 6th October (Friday), the Co-Op will be shutting off access to the car park and will spend two weeks improving the area and removing any abandoned or long-term stay cars.
It is scheduled to re-open as a pay & display car park at a future date that is not yet specified but possibly early November, and will be patrolled by the Co-Op’s own contractors.
Councillors have been told that the car park will offer short-term parking as well as full-day rates, with costs in line with other charges levied in the town by Waverley Borough Council.
The site will have machines that take cash, as well as pay-by-phone.
