Haslemere WW1 Poppy Memorial

Haslemere St Christopher's Poppies

Officials from The Royal British Legion today met Haslemere Town Councillors Edwards, Round, Piper and Odell at St Christopher’s Church in Haslemere.

The meeting had particular significance for Cllr Edwards, an ex-servicemen, who served in the Royal Artillery Regiment, pictured here with the glue gun.

They joined in the work of fixing poppies made by local schoolchildren and volunteers to two large nets, which will be draped from the church’s soon-to-be-erected flagpole to which the Council contributed £1,000.

Thousands of artificial poppies, plus real ones to be planted on St Christopher’s Green, will adorn the south side of the church later in the year.

This project is one of variety of Council-sponsored First World War Commemoration events that will take place in the town between now and Remembrance Day.
