You may have noticed the flag outside the Town Hall is at half-mast at the moment.
This is a mark of respect and affection for our colleague Councillor Michael Dover, 66, who died yesterday morning, 23rd July, from cancer.
The writer hadn’t know him all that long but he was a charming, straightforward man who remained an energetic advocate for the Hindhead ward he represented, attending Council meetings until very recently despite the difficulties presented by his illness. He got a cheer last time he walked into the Chamber. He couldn’t think why.
His common sense, good humour and considerable experience made sure that when he spoke, people listened.
He saw active service in the military and then a career in the media but after a bad car accident devoted himself more to charitable and voluntary work.
Rest in Peace, Michael.
