On Thursday 2nd May there are Town Council and Borough Council and County Council elections.
Whilst everyone drives round it, some people may not be aware that this building is Haslemere Town Hall, the Town Council’s HQ.
Built in about 1814, it has served as a market hall and a jail but downstairs now houses the Council officers (Town Clerk, Deputy Clerk and Mayor’s Secretary). They are permanent, professional staff.
Upstairs is the Council Chamber, see below, where those who are elected sit and discuss local matters. Get in touch to ask what.
There are 18 Town Council seats, and those who are elected represent the five wards in the town. They serve for four years and are unpaid.
